Privacy

Catavento doesn't know who you are, and it doesn't want to.

No accounts, no cookies

You don't sign up for anything. Catavento doesn't set cookies or track you.

Counting visits

To see roughly how many people use the site, and which pages, we use GoatCounter. It sets no cookies and doesn't follow you around or build a profile of you. It also counts which links to other websites people open, but only the link's address, never who opened it.

Your saved sites stay on your device

My Sites, your units and your speed limits are kept in your browser's storage on this device. They're never sent to us. Clearing your browser's data for this site removes them. A “Share my list” link contains only the sites' IDs.

Services your browser contacts

Some features load from other services, straight from your browser. Like any website, each of them can see your browser's internet address.

  • Open-Meteo, for wind forecasts, whenever a page shows an outlook. The request contains the site's position, nothing about you.
  • OpenFreeMap, for map tiles, whenever a page shows a map.
  • Windy, for its live wind map, only after you tap “Show live wind map”. Windy may set its own cookies.
  • Links to weather stations, clubs, schools and other sites take you to those sites, under their own privacy policies.

Feedback and corrections

Our feedback and correction forms are Google Forms. Your answers go to the project's private Google Sheets. We ask for your email only if you'd like a reply, and we never publish anyone's name or email.

People in the directory

We list organisations, not people. We don't copy committee members' names or personal contact details, even where a source publishes them.

Hosting

The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub logs visitors' internet addresses for security; we don't see or use those logs.
