Visiting pilots

Flying somewhere new? Catavento gathers where to find out how flying works in each country, who helps visiting pilots on the ground (site briefings, guiding, lifts up the hill), and who runs flying tours. The sources hold the details, so it's worth checking with them before you fly.

These lists are indicative, not complete. We add more as we find them, so there are likely others not listed here.

Before any trip

  • The IPPI card, from FAI/CIVL via national associations, shows your skill level abroad, but is valid only with a current national licence or rating card.
  • The IPPI card gives no insurance cover. Check what insurance the country you visit requires.

A short summary, not legal advice. Rules change, so check the current requirements with the national body of the country you're visiting. Summary checked 13 Oct 2026.

Finding local knowledge

  • Local pilots are often the best source of a site briefing. Site guides such as Paragliding Map list a local contact for many sites, and pilots often message them before visiting, commonly by WhatsApp.
