Before you fly

National body: FIVL (Federazione Italiana Volo Libero) (opens in a new tab)

  • Visiting pilots should carry their IPPI card so clubs can check their level. Third-party liability insurance is a legal requirement.
  • FIVL sells a 30-day liability policy for foreign pilots whose own cover falls short. Contact the clubs in the region before you fly.

A short summary, not legal advice. Rules change, so check the current requirements with FIVL (Federazione Italiana Volo Libero) before you fly. Summary checked 13 Oct 2026.

Finding local knowledge

  • At Monte Grappa (Bassano), the area's tourist consortium strongly recommends that pilots use the shuttle services to reach the launches because parking is scarce. Pilots also need the area's Fly Card.

Europe

  • Rules for visiting pilots are set by each country, so licence and insurance requirements differ from one country to the next.
  • Many countries let visitors fly with an IPPI card plus a current national licence. The IPPI card gives no insurance cover.
