Belgium

A short overview: how flying works here, where the sites are, and where to find more. Check with the national body or a local club or school before flying.

Overview

How flying works here

National body: Fédération Belge de Vol Libre (FBVL) / Belgische Vrije Vlucht Federatie (BVVF) (opens in a new tab)

Visiting pilots

  • Visitors need their own liability insurance, as FBVL insurance is not available to new members who do not live in Belgium.
  • The FBVL Pilote and Pilote XC licences match IPPI levels 4 and 5.

A short summary, not legal advice. Rules change, so check the current requirements with Fédération Belge de Vol Libre (FBVL) / Belgische Vrije Vlucht Federatie (BVVF) before you fly. Summary checked 13 Oct 2026.

Learning to fly

  • FBVL recommends training at an FBVL-approved school up to the Pilote licence; schools abroad must be approved by a federation FBVL recognises.
  • To fly distance (cross-country), FBVL asks members to hold the Pilote XC licence.
