How flying works here

Visiting pilots

  • Visiting pilots staying one to three months show a Greek club their IPPI card, home licence and liability insurance, and join as temporary members.
  • Visitors fly under Greek rules, with the privileges of the licence level they hold at home.

A short summary, not legal advice. Rules change, so check the current requirements with Hellenic Aeronautical and Airsports Federation (ELAO) before you fly. Summary checked 13 Oct 2026.

Learning to fly

  • Only ELAO-approved schools may teach paragliding, and training follows the FAI/CIVL SPP (CIVL's pilot training standard) standard.
  • Before practical training, students must join an ELAO club, hold an athlete health card and have third-party insurance.
  • Foreign students can complete basic training (IPPI 1–2) at a school, but IPPI 3 and above need ELAO exams.
